The beta sheets and alpha helixes of antibodies

 

Each antibody is made of four chains of about 100 amino acid molecules each. The beta sheets on the bottom unit (see arrow structures below) are arranged in a barrel formation for strength.

This beta sheets (the arrows) in the upper units give an antibody its "arm-like" look.

The red loops at the end include the variable regions designed to "catch" particular antigens.
