Making Amino Acids: peptide bonds and water

Peptide Bond with Water

Can you see the peptide bond? A peptide bond is made between the C of the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the N of the amino group of the next amino acid. This joining takes place in the ribosomes of a cell.

These bonds position an amino acid in only one of two angles. That gives the structure some flexibility, but not a great deal.

Water is made each time one amino acid is joined to another.
